Emily Cannon
Learning Design Consultant – DigitalHi there!
I work in the Digital Team, but I am the Learning Design Consultant with ownership of learning design for the entire Open Programmes portfolio, so I straddle two teams really! My job involves developing new programmes with faculty, external industry experts, and my colleagues, as well as redesigning and refreshing existing programmes where necessary, in face-to-face, Live Online, and online formats.
I have had quite a journey since I joined Executive Education team in October 2019 - currently on my fifth role! I started as an Administrator for the Open Programmes Team, moving into a Programme Manager role, and then as Business Development Manager, responsible for a range of Open Programmes; I have also worked on many Custom Programmes. Before becoming a Learning Design Consultant, I was a Learning Designer, and have been so lucky in being able to work somewhere that has allowed me to develop and follow my passions!
My academic background lies in Education; I initially trained as a Primary School Teacher, obtaining degrees in Education and English from both Durham University and Bishop Grosseteste University. I have also trained teachers, working as Guest Lecturer at the University of Maseru, Lesotho, and served as an International Project Manager in Sardinia.
Since joining JBSEEL, I have led the Social Committee, and am always spinning plates in different workstreams and committees - I love that we can make a real difference here, and contribute to the culture of JBSEEL! We are genuinely a very friendly bunch, and always have lovely comments when new starters join us.
In my spare time, I run a local community group and food bank, which I set up during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I am an active supporter of refugee rights, having worked in Calais, France for Choose Love, and hosting a displaced Ukrainian citizen through the Homes for Ukraine government scheme in 2022. I live in a village just outside of Cambridge with two cats and a tortoise (though my commute is painful with Cambridge traffic!), and I spend a lot of time ‘thrifting’ in the never-ending quest to be more sustainable.
Any questions about applying to work here? Get in touch - I'd love to hear from you!
